Air Delivery Shaded Parking/Install Air Curtains

Yuma Proving Ground (YPG), Yuma, AZ

GCE was subcontracted on this U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) project to construct a shaded parking pad at the Air Delivery Systems Complex. The parking pad was built along the road to the Air Delivery Ammunition Building (B2985) on the west side of the roadway. The parking pad was offset a minimum of 20 feet from the roadway to accommodate the turning radius of the aircraft loader and supported the weight of three Aircraft Loaders, each weighing 34,000 lbs. The available portion of the pad for parking was required to be 60 feet wider, 45 feet deep, and have a minimum clearance of 10 feet to accommodate parking for three aircraft loaders.

The underlying area was over-excavated to a depth of 10 inches below the existing grade. GCE scarified, moisture conditioned, and compacted the exposed underlying material. GCE placed and compacted 7 inches of imported Aggregate Base (AB), and then conducted bituminous treatment with prime coat and applied 3-inch bituminous hot mix paving. GCE constructed a fabric sunshade, 12 feet high x 60 feet x 45 feet over the area.
