Rehabilitation of Taxiway A,K, and L Shoulder

Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Yuma, AZ

The MCAS Yuma military training activities operate side by side with the Yuma International Airport’s civilian air services. This unique situation presents demanding coordination challenges to assure that both military and civilian operations have accurate and timely information concerning construction activities and that this information is conveyed to the appropriate personnel. GCE has well established relationships with both entities and have completed numerous projects safely and successfully. The Taxiway A, K, and L shoulder rehabilitation project is a design/build project for MCAS Yuma. GCE was subcontracted to prepare complete design plans and specifications in accordance with Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) requirements. In addition, GCE performed the topographic survey, geotechnical investigation, and construction services including removal and replacement of approximately 30,000 square yards (SY) of taxiway shoulder, rehabilitation and replacement of the taxiway edge, taxiway lighting, and retro-fit and/or replacement of traffic control signage. Grading of approximately 70,000 SY adjacent to the shoulders was necessary to bring the taxiways into compliance with current NAVAIR taxiway transverse grade standards.
