Underground Natural Gas Pipeline Installation, Phases 1, 2, and 3

Naval Air Facility (NAF) El Centro, CA.

For this design/build project, GCE served as the Designer of Record and provided all design, labor, equipment and materials to install nearly 10,000 linear feet (LF) of new underground natural gas pipeline to replace portions of an aging natural gas pipeline distribution network at NAF El Centro. This project was divided into 3 phases of development and included 5,541 LF in Phase 1, and 4,427 LF in Phases 2 and 3. New high-density polyethylene pipe replaced existing old and deteriorated underground steel piping. GCE personnel included surveyors, draftsmen, engineers, designers, site safety and health officers, quality control personnel, and construction personnel. Safety was of utmost importance due to the high risks involved in working with natural gas. At the conclusion of this project GCE provided the Department of the Navy with recommendations for prioritizing the remaining areas for the complete replacement of all underground gas piping at NAF El Centro. GCE received a STAR Safety and Excellence award for all phases of the project.
