Underground Natural Gas Pipeline Replacement

Naval Air Facility (NAF) El Centro, CA

For this design/build project, GCE provided all design, labor, equipment, and materials to install nearly 10,000 linear feet (LF) of new underground natural gas pipeline to replace portions of an aging natural gas pipeline distribution network at NAF El Centro. This project was divided into three phases of development and included 5,541 LF in Phase 1, and 4,427 LF in Phases 2 and 3. New high-density polyethylene pipe replaced existing old and deteriorated underground steel piping. GCE personnel for this design/build project included surveyors, draftsmen, engineers, designers, site safety and health officers, quality control personnel, and construction personnel. Safety was of utmost importance due to the high risks involved in working with natural gas. At the conclusion of this project, GCE provided the Navy with recommendations for prioritizing the remaining areas for the complete replacement of all underground gas piping at NAF El Centro.
